Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has clarified that he has no stake in the Indian Premier League franchise of Kochi. Earlier, there was a buzz that Gavaskar had a stake in the IPL franchise of Kochi.

Gavaskar said that he had been offered a role in the IPL franchise of Kochi as a cricket operations head but he had decided to wait till the internal dispute got resolved. Gavaskar also said that he had not helped the company Rendezvous Ltd. in winning the franchise.
The controversy involving Gavaskar had begun with the rumour that he had a stake in the company despite being a part of the Governing Council earlier. However, later Gavaskar had opted out of the Governing Council because they had refused to offer remuneration to the members.
Earlier, Shailendra Gaikwad, one of the co-owners of the Kochi franchise had confirmed that Gavaskar had indeed been offered a stake.
