The NEC Medias N-04C currently offered by NTT DoCoMo in Japan will likely arrive in U.S. shores, Japan’s largest daily business newspaper reported.

The Medias N-04C handset is a product of NEC Casio Mobile Communications, a consortium of NEC, Casio and Hitachi, and comes with a 7.7 mm thin frame and weighs 105 grams, making it a strong claimant for world’s thinnest smartphone and one of the lightest as well.

The Japan version of the Medias N-04C lies strictly in the mid-range with an 800 MHz processor, a 4-inch touchscreen LCD display at 480 x 854 (FWVGA) pixels resolution, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and a 5.1-megapixel rear camera.

It also includes an expandable memory via a microSD card slot, and also Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity options.

The upcoming U.S. version will likely have different features from the original handset, with the infrared, mobile wallet and TV tuner dropped off.

On the Japanese market, NEC Casio already replaced the Medias N-04C with a rugged 7.6 mm-thick N-06C.
