Her luminous smile could outshine the dazzle of a thousand light bulbs. A combo of high voltage beauty, talent and star power, Hema Malini stands tall in the history of Indian cinema as one of its most enduring icons.

Hema Malini, also known as the 'Dream Girl', rings in her 62nd birthday on October 16, 2010. The actress who began her career with 'Sapno Ka Saudagar' in 1968 opposite Raj Kapoor, still continues to look like a dream. Many would also say that she has a dream life as well. Age and time have definitely been kind to Hema. The actress has managed to live her life with dignity despite marrying a much married Dharmendra and having two daughters with him.

There is something about her which has always elicited a lot of respect. And now, so many years down the line, she still manages to remain a favourite with her audiences. Unfortunately for the actress, the audiences have remained only loyal to her and have not extended that loyalty to her daughter Esha, who has yet to get a toehold in Bollywood.

These days the actress makes rare appearances in films and devotes most of her time to her dance troupe and her daughters. Her last appearance was in a film called 'Sadiyaan' earlier this year. Currently, she is producing and directing a film for daughter Esha called 'Tell Me Oh Khuda'.

Hema enjoyed a very successful career and acted opposite all the leading men of her time, including Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, Manoj Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Sanjeev Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kumar, Dev Anand and, of course, Dharmendra.

The actress has given some memorable performances in films like 'Kinara', 'Lal Pathar', 'Seeta Aur Geeta', 'Sholay', 'Khushboo', 'Mehbooba', 'Naseeb', 'Meera' and the more recent 'Veer Zara' and 'Baghbaan'. She has acted in more than 150 films in a career spanning over 40 years and has received the Padma Shri, a Filmfare award for 'Best Actress' ('Seeta Aur Geeta') and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Towards the final phase of her career, she joined the BJP and even served a stint as a Rajya Sabha MP from 2003 to 2009.

On her birthday, here's wishing Hema Malini many more peaks of professional highs and plenty of happiness on the personal front to brighten up her life aheadů
